Accor named ‘world’s leading climate action initiative’ | News

Global hospitality giant Accor has been recognized with the title of The world’s leading climate action initiative by voters on the World Awards for Sustainable Travel and Hospitality for the supply chain decarbonization program ‘Achieving Net Zero Together’.
The award was unveiled in front of hundreds of global sustainable tourism leaders gathered in Dubai for the World Sustainable Travel & Hospitality Awards 2025. The VIP ceremony was held at Terra, Expo City Dubai and recognized the individuals and organizations accelerating change in net positive tourism.
The Achieving Net Zero Together program, launched in 2024, addresses a key challenge for corporate climate action: how to reduce supply chain emissions in a context of low supplier maturity and limited availability of carbon data. Structured around three pillars – measuring supplier carbon maturity, reducing supply chain emissions, promoting low-carbon suppliers and offerings – Accor has proactively developed internal tools and frameworks to support buyers and suppliers in designing practical, tailored roadmaps for decarbonizing the economy. Rather than waiting for the sector to mature, Accor has chosen to take action and tackle the challenges head-on.
Caroline Tissot, Group Chief Procurement Officer Accor, commented: “Winning the World’s Leading Climate Initiative Award at the 2025 World Sustainable Travel & Hospitality Awards recognizes Accor’s commitment to turning ambition into action. Through our supply chain decarbonization programme, we and our partners are driving tangible progress towards net zero. Our approach is differentiated by prioritizing action over reporting and direct one-on-one engagement between Accor category managers and suppliers. Receiving this recognition in the first year of the program reflects the joint effort of our purchasing teams and suppliers to move forward together.”
Accor has set a benchmark for global hospitality with its ambitious sustainability roadmap. The group is committed to halving Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 2030 and achieving net-zero emissions by 2050, integrating sustainability into every facet of its operations. Accor has phased out single-use plastics in its guest experiences, implemented food waste tracking across 100 percent of its properties, and prioritized local sourcing and biodiversity protection through its Planet 21 and Net Positive Hospitality programs.
The awards program is run in partnership with the World Sustainable Hospitality Alliance, whose partners and members represent more than 66,000 hotels, eight million rooms worldwide, 300 brands and more than 100 supply chain and strategic partners.
Glenn Mandziuk, President & Chief Executive Officer of World Sustainable Hospitality Alliance, said: “We congratulate Accor on this honor. This achievement reflects an outstanding commitment to innovation, collaboration and leadership in sustainable hospitality. At the World Sustainable Hospitality Alliance, we are proud to recognize organizations that are not only redefining excellence in guest experience, but also demonstrating that responsible business practices and sustainability are essential to the future of our industry – a net positive future for hospitality.”
Justin Cooke, Executive Vice President of the World Sustainable Travel & Hospitality Awards, said: “Our organization is committed to celebrating the individuals and companies who are setting new standards in protecting our planet for future generations – and Accor is a truly deserved winner. It is a privilege to recognize the organisation’s achievements at our second annual Gala Ceremony, and I wish the team much success in the years to come.”
