Amanda Seyfried says the viral bad singing video wasn’t her audition
Yes, Amanda Seyfried auditioned for Bad – but that viral video isn’t her audition tape.
The 39-year-old Oscar nominee dispelled rumors on social media that a video of her performing “Popular” from the hit musical was her bid to land the role of Glinda in the director. Jon M Chu‘s recent film adaptation. Instead, she was just having fun behind the scenes during a photo shoot.
“I think it was during COVID. I did a Lancôme shoot in Long Island City. Elizabeth Stewart [was] my stylist,” Seyfried explained People in an interview published on Saturday, December 14, referring to an excerpt provided by the stylist via Instagram almost two years ago.
In the video, Seyfried is seen wearing a striking silver princess dress as he sings one of Glinda’s signature tunes.
“I didn’t audition for it Bad not yet, but I knew it was coming. So I was just hanging out, and I was like, ‘This dress is so Glinda.’ And Elizabeth said, ‘Do it.’ And then at some point she posted. (Stewart posted the video in January 2023 to celebrate Seyfried’s Golden Globe nomination for her role as Elizabeth Holmes in The fallout.)
Since BadFollowing its release last month, fans on social media resurfaced the video and dubbed it Seyfried’s audition tape. That is not the case, although Seyfried did audition for the role of Glinda, ultimately played by a pop star Ariana Grande.
“I definitely tried my best for that,” she said of her audition for the role of Glinda. “And it was a very long process. And everything happens as it is intended.”
Amid the confusion over the video, Seyfried now thinks, “Maybe it would be better if it hadn’t been posted.”
Despite not getting the role of Glinda, Seyfried saw it Bad in the cinema and thought it was ‘fantastic’.
“It’s an extravaganza, and that’s what she does [Grande] doing really well. And [my kids] have been playing the soundtrack non-stop. And everything is as it was meant to be,” the Emmy winner added.
Other stars who auditioned for the role include René Rapp And Pigeon Cameron.
“I did [audition for it]. Ariana will be great,” Rapp said during a performance in November 2022 on Watch what happens live with Andy Cohen.
Meanwhile, Cameron said DeWrap in April 2023: “I definitely went for it.”
“I know it was a very long process for everyone who went for it. It was one of the longer processes I was a part of,” she added.
