‘Pacific Drive’ TV series based on James Wan’s survival game set
James Wan’s production company Atomic Monster has acquired the rights to develop the Game Award-nominated indie title ‘Pacific Drive’ into a TV series.
Created by Cassandra Dracott of Ironwood Studios, ‘Pacific Drive’ is a retro-punk style racing and survival game with an experimental electronic music soundtrack that challenges players to escape from a surreal and desolate exclusion zone with their car as their only companion in the dark and terrifying world.
“Pacific Drive” debuted in February and was nominated for Best Debut Indie Game at the 2024 Game Awards on December 12 and won Best Gameplay at the 2024 BIG Festival, where it was also nominated for Best Game. In June, the game was added to the suggested reading list for the Nebula Awards by the Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers Association.
Michael Clear and Rob Hackett of Wan and Atomic Monster will produce the TV series adaptation of the project along with Jeff Ludwig of The Menagerie Productions. The potential series has not yet been tied to a specific network or streaming platform.
Under Hackett’s leadership, Atomic Monster’s TV division recently debuted the horror thriller series “Teacup” on Peacock. Upcoming projects include the spy thriller “Copenhagen,” starring and executive produced by Simu Liu for Peacock, and “Obsession,” based on the best-selling novel “56 Days” by Catherine Ryan Howard, for Amazon’s Prime Video.
In addition, Wan’s Atomic Monster is currently developing TV projects ‘1313’, a horror reboot of ‘The Munsters’, a TV series based on ‘Robocop’ for Amazon and a live-action adaptation of ‘Gargoyles’ for Disney+.
