Derek Hough reveals what he stole from the Harry Potter set
Dancing with the stars right Derek Hough has a confession to make.
“Did you know @juleshough and I were in the first? Harry Potter movie?” Hough, 39, asked his fans via Instagram on Wednesday, December 4. The professional dancer was referring to him and his sister Julianne Hough‘s brief appearance in the 2001 film Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone.
“We spent three months in the Great Hall, the Forbidden Forest and even on the Quidditch pitch!” Derek continued in the post’s caption, sharing snapshots of the siblings’ cameos. “It was incredible to be part of such a historic moment.”
Hough further admitted that he “may have ‘accidentally’ taken a few items from filming, including a “Ravenclaw robe, scarf, tie and a few pieces of silverware from the set.”
“But shh, don’t tell,” he joked. “Just a little holiday magic and nostalgia to share with all of you. Happy Holidays.”
Derek and Julianne, 36, appeared as extras in the film, playing Hogwarts students in the adaptation of author JK Rowling’s novel of the same name. In the comments section, Derek also revealed that being a fellow blonde sometimes put him in the spot Tom Feltonwho played the infamous Slytherin character Draco Malfoy.
“I also vouched for Draco Malfoy to make the recordings,” Derek wrote. “PPPPOTTER!”
Fans were also quick to express their shock and excitement in the comments section, including Potterheads who admitted they had never noticed the famous siblings’ appearance until now.
“WHAT! How did I not recognize Julianne in that scene!” one person wrote in the comments section.
“Did. NOT. Know. I love this little fun fact,” another commented.
“The Hough lore never ends!! He’s a wizarddddd,” one fan wrote, while another joked: “You have literally lived a hundred lives.”
While Derek’s revelation came as a surprise to some, this isn’t the first time a Hough sibling has discussed their short time on the radio. Harry Potter set. In a 2017 interview with PeopleJulianne opened up about her time in the iconic film – and even the feelings she had for the movie star, Daniel Radcliffe.
“I got him a love note and a Beanie Baby for Valentine’s Day,” the actress admitted at the time. “I didn’t give it to him personally because I was just an extra, but I gave it to his assistant or PA who was working with him. I don’t know if he ever got it.”
