Matthew Perry’s family calls his death a year later ‘shocking’

Matthew Perry’s younger sister and stepfather have admitted his “shocking death” still haunts them, a year after the actor found himself unresponsive to a drug overdose.
Keith Morrison and his daughter, Caitlin Morrison, opened their doors as they unveiled the powerful work they have done in honor of the late Friends star, RadarOnline.com can reveal.

Caitlin, 43, is the executive director of the Matthew Perry Foundation of Canada – which builds on the efforts of the Matthew Perry Foundation in the US to promote better support for people struggling with addiction, a struggle he has seen firsthand experienced.
In conversation with Hello! Canada, Caitlin said the work she does makes her feel “like I’m sitting next to Matthew and working with him every day on something that was important to him.”

She added: “I have the treasure of being able to keep him very, very close to my life all the time, which is wonderful.”
Matthew’s stepfather, 77, believes his son would have been proud of what the Canadian organization has accomplished in his honor.

Keith said: “He would like to be remembered for doing something to help people suffering from addiction.”
Matthew’s mother, Suzanne, serves on the Canadian foundation’s board of directors, along with his childhood friend Brian Murray and mental health expert Cara Vaccarino.

Keith also took a moment to reflect on Matthew’s passing, saying: “Anyone who has lost a child will tell you that even if you are somehow prepared for the possibility, it is mind-boggling. “
“What we decided to do is stick with that determination and try to do something useful.”

Caitlin recalled her brother’s impact, explaining that he “had the ability to fill a room with light.” [Matthew]There was this magnetic energy.”
She added: “Everyone just had a smile on their face and they latched onto everything he said.”

Caitlin said she “will always see herself as Matthew’s little sister – a wide-eyed girl who thought (still thinks) her brother was the coolest human being to ever exist.”
While Matthew taught her many life hacks — like making popcorn and “editing” a report — Caitlin said the “best thing” he taught her was that “no matter how many times you fail, you haven’t failed until you stop trying.”

The Matthew Perry Foundation of Canada was launched on November 3, 2023, just days after Matthew was pronounced dead on October 28.
The actor was found unconscious in the jacuzzi of his Los Angeles home, and an autopsy later revealed that he died from the acute effects of ketamine.
He was 54.
In one statement given at the launch, his family said: “It is important for us, as a family, to honor Matthew’s legacy. The potential that the Matthew Perry Foundation has to help people suffering from this disease is something we are proud of. to the world.”
