Max will launch in seven Asian territories in November

Warner Bros. Discovery has confirmed that its streaming service Max will launch in seven territories in Southeast Asia next month.

From November 19, it will be available in Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore and Thailand, as well as Taiwan and Hong Kong.

Max offers a choice of different plans. Full details on pricing will be announced in the coming weeks and will vary by country and provider. Mobile-only plans will be available in Indonesia and the Philippines, and through select carriers in Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines and Thailand.

WBD currently operates a stopgap HBO Go streaming service in parts of East Asia. Max represents both a better technology platform and a broader content offering.

WBD is pitching Max, which has launched in North America and multiple international territories, as “a brand new streaming experience [..] We offer fans blockbuster films, groundbreaking series, iconic hits, compelling real-life content and family favorites through a strong product experience.” It was first launched in Asia at the end of September as a branded environment, with its own user interface, within the Japanese streaming platform U-Next.

Max, subscribers can create up to five unique profiles, each customizable, receive content choices based on viewing habits and customize profiles for children, curated with age-appropriate content and parental controls.

Entertainment brands offered on the platform include HBO, Cartoon Network, Max Originals, Discovery, TLC, AFN, Food Network, ID and HGTV. Content franchises include ‘Harry Potter’ and the DC Universe.
