Meryl Streep sides with Jimmy Kimmel as Donald Trump calls for his resignation

After thunderous applause, Meryl Streep took the stage of “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” Thursday evening alongside the controversial host, during her whirlwind promotional tour for the highly anticipated sequel “The Devil Wears Prada 2.”
“How are you?” Streep asked, obviously loudly and repeatedly referring to President Trump — calling for the host’s firing on every conceivable platform over a joke about how Melania Trump looked like “a widow-to-be” because her husband had been looking particularly weak and sleepy lately.
“When will ABC Fake News Network fire the seriously unfunny Jimmy Kimmel, who incompetently chairs one of the lowest-rated shows on television?” Trump posted on Truth Social earlier in the day. “People are angry. It better be quick!!!” (Kimmel’s show has solid ratings.)
“I’m hanging in there,” Kimmel told Streep.
“You’re a prince. You’re a Templar,” Streep said. “You carry the banner of press freedom.”
After he shyly replied, “I’m just trying to make some jokes,” the actress informed him, “We all depend on you — and the world is listening. I just came from all over the world.”
Streep knows a thing or two about press freedom and has received high praise for her portrayal of the famous Washington Post publisher Katherine Graham in the 2017 film “The Post,” about the newspaper that published the Pentagon Papers.
