Rebekah and Jamie Vardy set up reality series on ITV

Rebekah Vardy, who infamously took fellow footballer Coleen Rooney’s wife to court over an Instagram post, will soon be getting her own reality show.

The series, titled “The Vardys,” from Orchard Studios, will debut on British network ITV (and its streaming platform ITVX) later this year. The showrunner for “The Vardys” is Josh Jacobs.

The series features Rebekah and her husband Jamie Vardy, a former Leicester City footballer. He has since moved to Cremonese, Italy. The show follows the couple and their children as they head to the continent to start over.

Rebekah Vardy hit the headlines in 2019 after Coleen Rooney (wife of England football star Wayne Rooney) revealed on social media that she had hatched a plot to find out which of her friends had sold stories about her to the tabloids by posting fake news on a private Instagram account. She blocked her followers one by one until Vardy was the only person who, she concluded, was the one selling the stories. The fallout, which caused a furore across the country, earned Rooney the nickname ‘Wagatha Christie’ (‘Wags’ is the collective name for the wives and girlfriends of footballers in Great Britain).

Vardy sued Rooney for defamation, but after a spectacular trial in 2022, which received widespread press coverage, the judge ruled against Rooney, leaving Vardy with a huge legal bill and her reputation in tatters. The trial inspired a stage play and TV special, while Rooney got her own series on Disney+.

According to ITV’s press release, Vardy is now “ready for the next chapter.”

“As she manages the emotional and physical turmoil of the new move, she reflects on her recent challenges in Britain, intent on putting the ‘Wagatha’ drama behind her and focusing on an exciting new chapter,” the release said.

ITV’s editor-in-chief for entertainment and reality, Louise Major, who co-ordered the show with Katie Rawcliffe, said: “We’re thrilled to be working with the Vardys on this series for ITV1 and ITVX. At a crucial time in their lives, this is a rare and revealing look behind the headlines – from the highlights of Jamie’s football legacy to the reality of starting over as a family, with Rebekah sharing her reflections on one of the most talked-about stories in the history of the series.” last decade.”

Dan Grabiner and Nat Lippiett, executive producers of Orchard Studios, added: “The Vardys are an iconic and brilliantly entertaining family, and this behind-the-scenes insight into their big move shows them as you’ve never seen them before: candid, unfiltered and completely unpredictable. Welcome to the Vardy party.”
