Andrew Windsor has been ‘misled’ over Epstein’s correspondence claim

RadarOnline.com can reveal that Andrew Windsor has been branded ‘misguided’ by insiders over his belief that secret correspondence with Jeffrey Epstein will clear his name, as the former prince prepares for a high-stakes legal battle over allegations related to his public role.

The ex-Duke of York, 66, was arrested last month at his home on the Sandringham estate in Norfolk on suspicion of misconduct in public office relating to his time as the UK’s trade envoy between 2001 and 2011. He was later released under investigation.

The charges are based on claims that he shared sensitive information while interacting with his late friend, convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein – a crime that could carry stiff penalties if proven.

King Charles, 77, said publicly after the arrest that authorities would receive full cooperation, adding that “the law must take its course.”

A source close to the legal process said: ‘There is increasing concern among those working around Andrew Windsor that he is clinging to the belief that a specific set of documents will act as a silver bullet to his defence.

“From his perspective, these materials hold the key to clearing his name, but others involved in the case view this as a very narrow and potentially misleading interpretation of what is in reality a very complex and multi-layered legal situation.”

The insider added: “He seems absolutely convinced that once these documents are made public, they will dramatically change the way the allegations are perceived, almost as if they will change the entire story in his favor.

“There is, however, a growing unease among advisers that he is becoming completely misled and going down a rabbit hole, overestimating both their significance and their ability to carry the kind of legal weight he expects. In cases like this, the evidence rarely operates in isolation, and there is concern that he is relying far too much on one element rather than the broader picture.”

Another insider said Andrew’s strategy has raised eyebrows among those familiar with high-level legal defense.

They added: “Andrew seems to be treating this almost like a puzzle where everything can be solved by uncovering the right set of papers – as if there is a definitive trail of correspondence that will neatly explain everything and resolve the situation in his favor. That mentality shapes how he approaches the case.”

The source noted: “The problem is that legal proceedings of this magnitude and severity are never defined by one set of documents, no matter how important they may appear individually. There is a broader body of evidence, layers of investigation and multiple factors at play. Therefore, there is a degree of skepticism among those involved as to whether his expectations are fully in line with how these cases actually unfold in practice.”

Behind the scenes, Andrew is said to be collecting correspondence, documents and notes from his tenure as trade envoy to Britain, and working on a detailed timeline that he believes will support his defense.

A palace aide said: ‘Andrew spends a huge amount of time and attention collecting documents, putting them together and structuring everything in a way that he believes tells a clear and compelling story. There is a very methodical effort on his part to organize timelines, preserve correspondence and create what he sees as a coherent narrative of events.”

“From his point of view, it’s not just about preparation – it’s about preparing a detailed report that he believes will withstand intense scrutiny as the case develops. He believes that by presenting everything in a structured and thorough manner it will strengthen his version of the events under scrutiny,” the aide added.

However, as the situation develops, tensions with his older brother Charles have increased.

A palace aide said: ‘Andrew is feeling increasingly isolated and frustrated by what he sees as a lack of visible support from the palace. There is a perception on his part that he has to navigate this largely alone, despite the seriousness of the allegations.”

The issue of financial support has also become a point of contention. Another insider said: “He has made it clear that he expects help with legal costs, especially given that the allegations relate to his time carrying out official duties. The potential costs are significant, and that has added further strain to an already difficult situation.”

Observers said Andrew’s determination to fight the allegations is matched by the scale of the challenge ahead. A legal expert following the case said: “This is likely to be a lengthy and complex process, involving detailed examination of evidence and legal arguments. It will require a considered and strategic approach, especially when public scrutiny is so intense.”

Another insider said the gap between Andrew’s confidence and external perceptions has become increasingly apparent.

“There is a belief in some quarters that he is underestimating the complexity of what he is dealing with,” the source added.

“While he remains confident that the truth will be in his favor, others are less certain that the outcome will be so simple.”
