Jack Antonoff trolls critics after Katy Perry earbud drama at VMAs

Jack Antonoff has heard the criticism over his use of earplugs at the 2024 MTV VMAs, and has hit back at his haters.

The music producer issued a sarcastic apology online Thursday evening after being let down for protecting his ears during Katya Perry‘s performance at this week’s awards ceremony.

While some fans accused Jack of being “disrespectful” towards Katy plug in some noise canceling plugsthe Grammy winner made it clear that the situation had been blown way out of proportion… and roasted those who took his earbud use so seriously.

He wrote… “I would like to tell you straight from me that I have been using earplugs recently. They were blue ‘hearos’ brands and I am shocked to admit that I have been using them for a long time as and they are in bulk buy.”

Jack confirmed that he tends to wear earplugs in certain loud environments – a common practice among music producers and sound mixers working in the industry – as well as on airplanes and while sleeping.

He added… “There is no other option than to apologize and thank those who told this story, because although it is an embarrassment to my family and me, I believe this is a very important and urgent issue that needed to be brought to light.”

Jack joked in the X message he wouldn’t go to work to reflect on his alleged bad behavior… but made it clear that the drama would not affect tour plans.

The music producer’s statement came a day after Katy’s performance at the VMAs.

Several people theorized that the move was related to an earlier drama between Jack, his frequent collaborator Taylor Swiftand Katy … who cited another VMA incident where he was allegedly rude to KP when she hosted the 2017 show.

However, other fans spoke out in Jack’s defense, noting that it was completely normal for a musician to want to protect his hearing.
