Jet2.com reduces carbon emissions with completion of multi-million pound wing retrofit | News

Jet2.com has completed a two-year retrofit installation program, installing Split Scimitar Winglets on 74 of its Boeing 737-800NG aircraft.

The retrofit improves the aircraft’s efficiency, reduces fuel consumption by 1.5% and helps reduce the airline’s annual CO2 emissions by more than 28,000 tonnes.

The multi-million pound retrofit, featuring the innovative winglet designs supplied by Aviation Partners Boeing (APB), also means the leading leisure airline will reduce annual fuel consumption by more than 11 million litres.

The completion of the retrofit is the latest tangible action in Jet2’s sustainability strategy, which has been repeatedly recognized for its results-oriented approach, such as:

It is investing billions in decarbonising its fleet, with a firm order for 155 brand new Airbus A321neo aircraft that deliver up to 20% reductions in CO2 emissions and are 50% quieter compared to the planes they replace.
The electrification of Jet2.com’s ground service equipment, with over 50% of Jet2.com’s ground service equipment (GSE) now fully electric, and all GSE at Newcastle Airport now fully electric.
A climate transition plan, focusing on existing technologies and tangible actions that can be taken today. As a result, Jet2.com will reduce its CO2 emissions per paying passenger kilometer (gCO2/RPK) by 35% in 2035 compared to 2019 (43.55gCO2/RPK in 2035 versus 67gCO2/RPK in 2019).
The company’s full sustainability strategy, which saw Jet2 named winner in the Package Holiday/Leisure Airline category at the global AirlineRatings.com 2025 Sustainability Awards, can be viewed here: www.jet2.com/sustainability

David Neill, Corporate Affairs and Sustainability Director at Jet2 said: “This multi-million pound investment in our fleet is the latest demonstration of our firm commitment to taking tangible actions to reduce our impact on the environment. This innovative winglet technology from APB plays a key role in helping to reduce emissions and is just one of many steps we are taking in our ambitious sustainability strategy.”
