Polansky, 42, a Harvard-educated tech entrepreneur who got engaged to Gaga, 39 — born Stefani Germanotta — earlier this year became the center of speculation after fans noticed his name on the songwriting credits for several songs on her Grammy-nominated album Bend.
The pair worked closely together on the record and on the tour that followed – with Gaga also playing a role in Polansky’s own business ventures.
In a rare interview about how his involvement with her music began, Polansky said the pair had simply talked about music as Gaga struggled to regain trust after a difficult period. As he tells it, the collaboration came about naturally.
“Because it was music, it ended up making me help her make music,” he said. “The way I think about it, if she wanted to open an Italian restaurant, I would have learned to make pasta. It was never about music. It just ended up there.”

Catty rumors that he inserted himself into the creative process have frustrated those around the couple.
An industry source familiar with the writing sessions said: “The idea that he talked his way into the studio is nonsense.
“He supported her, and did not plot a career move.”
Another person close to the singer said: ‘People love the story that he was out for influence, but the truth is much less dramatic.
“Michael is very loving towards Stefani and intervened when she asked for help at a vulnerable time.”
Polansky also described how informal suggestions between the two became part of the songs, and insists she asked for his writing help.
“There’s a whole bunch of lyrics on the album that I wrote, not intentionally. We were texting each other and I was like, ‘Oh, what about this?'” he said. “And then it ends up in the song.”
He added that Gaga’s decision to give him the honor took him completely by surprise.
“It was very moving for me that she wanted to acknowledge me,” he said. “I do think it may have become a little more confusing for people on the outside looking in than we expected.”

Sources say the confusion quickly led to gossip, which Polansky has now finally addressed.
One source said: “He’s not trying to be a pop star. He’s not looking for publishing royalties. He’s a stabilizing force in her life, and the honor was her choice, not something he lobbied for.”
Another insider added: “He’s not making any money from Gaga. If anything, he’s uncomfortable with the attention.”
The partnership has developed in both directions. Gaga is involved in Polansky’s scientific ventures, including his skin health research company, where she sits on the board.
A business associate said: ‘People assume he is the one benefiting from her profile, but she has also invested a lot in his work. That part of the story is often ignored.’

Insiders said Michael Polansky supported Gaga because she asked for help.
Gaga says and Polansky, “Being in love with someone who cares about the real me made a really big difference.”
Polansky proposed to the singer by wrapping a piece of grass around Gaga’s finger in their backyard – as recounted in her song Blade of grass.
He later replaced it with a ring, but Gaga says she kept the knife and is wearing it.
