Trump administration ‘dissolves’ the Pave Task Force Effective
Scott Turner, secretary of the US Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and Jeffrey Clark van de White House Office of Management and Budget (Omb) has issued the order and said that it complies with the executive command of President Donald Trump in which is called up for the end of the regulations with regard to diversity, equity and inclusion (dei).
“By demolishing these heavy obstacles, we free professionals from a Wirwar from bureaucracy who yielded the costs, inhibited access to home ownership and discouraged the market participation,” Turner said in a statement.
“Under the leadership of President Trump, the obsession of the Biden era with dei and over regulation is over. At HUD we restore common sense and we bring the American dream of homeowners within reach.”
Pave was launched in 2021 as an Interagency Task Force that wants to tackle racial and ethnic bias in house values, especially in neighborhoods of color. Former HUD secretary Marcia Fudge and former White house Advisor Susan Rice is co-chairman of the group.
The group concluded that there were huge discrepancies in assessment values between black and white neighborhoods as a result of systematic racial prejudices. But the conclusion was soothed by some in the industry because they were partially dependent on a study of the liberal think tank Stream institute. A study by the conservative think tank American Enterprise Institute (AEI) concluded that gaps in valuations were the result of socio -economic differences, not racial bias.
Trump’s attack on dei-related policy did not show much doubt that Pave would eventually come under fire. The website for the Task Force became dark shortly after Trump started his second term, and it was generally assumed that it would be completely closed.
