Rainn Wilson says that ‘the office’ was a ‘struggle’ as soon as Steve Carell left

Rainn Wilson recently appeared on the “Good guys“Podcast and opened about the difficulties to film” The Office “after Steve Carell left the show in 2011.

Wilson, who played Dwight Schrute, discussed his experience working on the comedy series for nine seasons with Podcasthosts Josh Peck and Ben Soffer. “The Office” Co star admitted in the interview that it was a challenge for the cast and the production to continue the show after they lost their leading man.

“When Steve left, it was a bit chaotic to try to find out the tone of the show and who is the protagonist and, how do we tell these stories without, you know, the comic engine of the show, which Michael Scott is, and without one of the greatest comic actors in the American history in the middle of our show. That was also a struggle.” Wilson explained.

Wilson, however, shared that the departure of Carell or their other cast members did not surprise him because he was “such a big movie star at the time.” Asked about his response to learning about the exit of Carrell, Wilson said, “We knew it would come for a long time.”

As soon as Carrell left ‘The Office’, he played in various films, including ‘Crazy, Stupid Love’, the ‘Despicable Me’ Franchise, ‘Hope Springs’ and ‘The Way Way Back’.

Carell received extensive criticism for portraying Michael Scott in the NBC series. During his six years at the Sitcom he was nominated six times for Outstanding Lead Actor in a comedy series at The Emmys. Although he never won, his performance in the show increased his visibility, making him a Hollywood star.

Wilson also said that Carell already had a promising film career during his time on ‘The Office’. “He did it as a ‘Burt re -tone’ and these big comedies. At that time I forget all the names, but ‘becomes smart’, you know? [Movies] Those were in 2,000 theaters at the plywood, “said Wilson.” So of course he will leave ‘the office’ when he can! “

The series took place for two seasons without Carell before he ended in 2013, in which he made a surprise as a Scott in the serial final. However, a new iteration of ‘The Office’, ‘The Paper’, has been picked up as an emerging Mockumentary series that debuts on Peacock in September.
