Billy Joel’s pain was exposed after unveiling suicide attempts
During the Tribeca premiere of the new documentary, Billy Joel: And so it goes, The legendary singer revealed that he was trying to take his life after he had an affair with the wife of his friend and former Atilla bandmate Jon Small.
At the time, Joel lived with small, his wife Elizabeth Weber and their young son. Joel would eventually marry Weber, but he always felt bad about the catalyst of their relationship.
“I felt very, very guilty about it. They had a child. I felt like a housewife,” said Joel. “I was just in love with a woman and I was beaten in the nose, which I deserved. Jon was very upset. I was very upset.”
The Vienna Singer continued sharing that he fell into a deep depression – eventually led that he considered the worst.

Joel an overdose of sleeping pills for the first time and was in a coma for days. He remembered that he woke up in the hospital and thought he wanted to do it again – but this time ‘right’.
The next time he drank a bottle of “Lemon Pledge” and was taken to the hospital. The failed attempts led Joel to check in for a few weeks in an “observation department”, a decision that he described as “life -changing”.
Now Joel is in a different fight – this time with NPH, a condition that causes problems with his hearing, eyesight and coordination and has already led to the cancellation of his upcoming concerts up to and including July.
An insider told Radar exclusively: “Billy has not been good for a while. He stumbles around and acted strangely, and he fell on stage so long ago.”
In February Joel lost his balance and crashed to the floor while hitting It’s still rock and rolling for me During a show in Connecticut.
As a participant noted about that incident: “He looked weak over the stage … I was really worried about him during the concert.”
A month later, the Uptown girl Singer announced that he took a four -month interruption to perform because of an unnoticed “medical condition” that required surgery.
The announcement of the diagnosis on Instagram last month shared a statement stating: “Under instructions from his doctor, Billy undergoes specific physiotherapy and is advised to refrain from the performance during this recovery period.
“Billy is grateful for the excellent care he receives and is fully committed to prioritizing his health.”
The insider said that the focus is now on Joel’s full recovery: “What he has is not fatal at the moment. But the fear is of course that the diagnosis has been late and that he will have problems for the rest of his life.”
