Roy Wood Jr. sets Hulu comedy special

Roy Wood Jr. will debut his next stand-up special on Hulu.

Wood will record his fourth special at the Lincoln Theater in Washington DC in early September. Mainstay Entertainment and Jax Media will produce the special, and c. Craig will direct. The film is streaming internationally on Disney+. The special’s title and launch date will be announced at a later date.

The special is the latest announced since Hulu revealed plans to break into the stand-up comedy world in May. Hulu will launch a new stand-up hub in November, with Jim Gaffigan set to be the first comedian, while Bill Burr will also debut a new special on the streamer at a later date. Hulu will also launch a collection of licensed stand-up specials, including recent releases from 800 Pound Gorilla and Comedy Dynamics.

Wood is perhaps best known for his eight years as a correspondent on the Emmy-winning Comedy Central series “The Daily Show.” Wood also guest-hosted the show and headlined the White House Correspondents’ Dinner in 2023. It was recently announced that Wood had signed a deal with Crown Publishing to write a memoir, ‘The Man of Many Fathers’. He also appeared on shows such as “Only Murders in the Building,” “Last Week Tonight with John Oliver,” and “Better Call Saul.” In film, Wood appeared opposite Jon Hamm in the 2022 film “Confess, Fletch” and will appear alongside stars like Keanu Reeves and Cameron Diaz in the upcoming feature film “Outcome,” directed by Jonah Hill.
