Val Kilmer asked Will Forte to do ‘The Amazing Race’ together

Will Forte wrote an emotional First-person essay for vulture In which he remembered his friendship with the late Val Kilmer, who died of pneumonia on 1 April at the age of 65. The two actors were co-stars in Forte’s comedy ‘MacGruber’ from 2010, which was based on the popular ‘SNL’ kit with the same name. Kilmer played like the villain -like Dieter von Cunth. According to Forte Kilmer “literally gave me the shirt of his back” while he was on the set.

“MacGruber” was the start of a beautiful friendship between the two actors. Forte writes that when Kilmer “had a dispute with his landlord” in Malibu, California, he asked if he could withdraw. Forte and Kilmer then lived together for two and a half months. It was during this period that Forte Kilmer introduced to Reality television, in particular ‘The Amazing Race’, where Kilmer ‘really went’.

“Then, at one point, he said:” Will, you and I have to do “the great race”. We have to. Let’s “The Amazing Race,” writes Forte van Kilmer. We have become really enthusiastic about it, and then we called our respective agents and managers, and they were from: “There is no way you do that.” That is perhaps the biggest regret of my entire career – that I never did ‘the amazing race’ with falls.

“I think we would come out very quickly, but it would have just been the experience of your life,” Forte added what could have been.

“I wish I had more time to remember the old stories,” he adds later. “There are so many memories that I leave. I am sure we talked about working together on other things together, but nothing really serious … He was always like:” Oh, I’m going to do this thing for Francis Ford Coppola “or something. We were lucky to let him do” MacGruber “, but I didn’t know I was lucky to work with him.

In the aftermath of the death of Kilmer, countless tribute came from his famous co-stars and directors. Tom Cruise, who played with Kilmer in the iconic film ‘Top Gun’, was in Cinemacon this week to promote ‘Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning’ and asked for a moment of silence in honor of Kilmer.

“I would like to honor a dear friend of mine, fall Kilmer,” said Cruise from the stage in Caesars Palace. “I can’t tell you how much I admire his work, how grateful and honored I was when he became a member of ‘Top Gun’ and later came back for ‘Top Gun: Maverick’ … I wish you the best on the next trip.”
