Amazon’s Echo will send all voice recordings to the cloud, starting March 28

Amazon Echo users will no longer have the option to process their Alexa requests locally, which means that all their speech recordings are sent to the cloud of the company.
Ars Technica reports That Amazon sent an e-mail on Friday to customers who “do not send speech recordings”, made possible on their ultrasound smart speakers and displays, which states that the company would stop supporting the privacy-enhancing position on 28 March.
“While we continue to expand Alexa’s possibilities with generative AI functions that depend on the processing force of Amazon’s Secure Cloud, we have decided not to support this function,” said the e -mail.
This comes when Amazon rolls out a new version of his speech-driven AI assistant, now known as Alexa+. In the past, consumers and regulators have expressed their concern about Alexa’s privacy implications, where Amazon agrees to pay a settlement of $ 25 million in 2023 with the Federal Trade Commission about the privacy of children.
