Google is replacing Google Assistant with Gemini

Google will replace Google Assistant on Android phones by Gemini later this year, the company announced on Friday.

Google said in a blog post That it will upgrade more users of Google Assistant to Gemini ‘in the coming months’. Later this year, the Assistant will no longer be accessible on most mobile devices or be available in app stores.

“Moreover, we will upgrade tablets, cars and devices that connect to your phone, such as headphones and watches, to Gemini,” the company added. “We also bring a new experience, driven by Gemini, to house devices such as speakers, displays and TVs.”

Google said it will share more details with users in the coming months, and that the assistant will continue to work on the above devices until that time.

Google notes that it has worked to improve the Gemini user experience prior to the assistant wind, especially for users who are dependent on different assistant functions. For example, Google has added various highly requested functions to Gemini on Android devices, such as the possibility of playing music, support for timers and an option to take actions directly from the lock screen of a user.

The switch to Assistant for Gemini is not surprising, especially since Google has launched its Pixel 9 -Smartphonelijn with Gemini as a standard virtual assistant. Google notes that Gemini has more advanced options than assistant (in theory, at least), and offers new ways to get help and information on topics via tools such as Gemini Live and Diep research.
