5 great Netflix movies to watch on Valentine’s Day: Titanic, Hit Man and more

Watch With Us has to admit something: we’re hopeless romantics, and Valentine’s Day is one of our favorite holidays.
You can be sure that on the day of love, we will have a romantic movie marathon to feel all the feels.
Netflix has lots of great options for elite Valentine’s viewing – from tragic romances to classic rom-coms, there’s something for everyone.
This week we recommend five of the best Netflix movies to watch on Valentine’s Day. Our choices include Nora Ephron‘S You have mail, the Bollywood tragicomedy Om Shanti Om and more.
‘You’ve Got Mail’ (1998)
She is a struggling small business bookseller, he is the owner of Foxbooks, and they are unaware that they have accidentally fallen in love with each other. Despite being bitter business rivals, Kathleen (Mega Ryan) and Joe(Tom Hanks) connect to an AOL chat room and develop a romantic yet anonymous rapport over a series of emails. However, Joe is shocked when he realizes that he is in love with the enemy. Joe is then forced to reconcile his dislike for a woman he has fallen for.
You have mail is one of the best American romcoms of all time, from the romcom master herself, Nora Ephron, and starring the timeless chemistry between Hanks and Ryan. If you’re looking for a slow-paced romance movie that combines warmth, charm, and just the perfect amount of humor, you can’t go wrong by streaming. You have mail.
‘Titanic’ (1997)
Penniless artist Jack Dawson (Leonardo DiCaprio) gambles his way to two tickets aboard the brand new, unsinkable ocean liner the Titanic. On board he meets the aristocratic Rose DeWitt Butaker (Kate Winslet), engaged to the snobbish heir to the Pittsburgh steel fortune Cal Hockley (Billy Zane). Lonely and unhappy, Rose begins a friendship with Jack that turns into something more. But once they realize their passion for each other, the Titanic collides with an iceberg, causing flat tires on the starboard side and beginning the desperate battle for the survival of every passenger on board.
Fun fact: Titanic was particularly successful in India at the time due to the film’s similarity to a popular Bollywood epic. Titanic really has it all: romance, drama, comedy, action, disaster and song and dance, plus the unparalleled CGI spectacle brought to us by the greats James Cameron. You could pass on Titanic because it’s so ubiquitous (and so memed), but it only takes one viewing to realize why it’s taken over pop culture – it’s just incredible.
‘Hitman’ (2023)
Regular college professor Gary Johnson (Glen Powell) moonlight helps local police conduct sting operations and goes undercover to take down criminals. But when the usual cop who goes undercover as hitmen is suspended, Gary takes it upon himself to fill his shoes and becomes extremely successful at catching people trying to pull off murders for hire. But when a beautiful suspect (Adria Arjona) “hires” him to get rid of her abusive husband, Gary finds himself breaking protocol to protect her.
Sexy, romantic, exciting and funny, Touch man is a rom-com hybrid that cements Powell’s status as leading man material. While Touch man manages to act as a fascinating exploration of human identity and our ability to change ourselves, it’s also fun, exciting and a real crowd-pleaser. Moreover, the film makes a meal of the titillating chemistry between Powell and Arjona.
‘Om Shanti Om’ (2007)
In 1970s Bollywood, extra film Om “Omi” Kapoor (Shah Rukh Khan) has big dreams of becoming a movie star, while he is also in love with A-lister Shantipriya (Deepika Padukone). But when Shanti’s deceitful fiancé abandons her and dies in a fire, Omi’s attempt to save her ends in the deaths of both of them. Thirty years later, Omi is reincarnated as the great celebrity and actor he always wanted to be, but when he experiences flashbacks to his past life, he vows to take revenge on the man who killed him and his love.
If you’ve never seen a Bollywood movie, Om Shanti Om is both a great place to start and also objectively one of the most beautiful tragic romances of all time. You’ll never look at American blockbusters the same way again once you realize how sumptuous, meticulous and creative they can be. Starring two of the most attractive actors ever (Khan and Padukone), Om Shanti Om also contains impressive dance numbers with songs that will keep you listening.
‘Bones and Everything’ (2022)
Burdened with an insatiable bloodlust, 18-year-old Maren Yearly (Taylor Russell) is abandoned by her father and forced to wander the American back roads alone, where she meets the disenfranchised drifter Lee (Timothée Chalamet). Suffering from the same cannibalistic condition, the two outcasts form a strong bond as they embark on a 2,500-mile cross-country odyssey, meeting others like them along the way. But the past they are both running from eventually catches up with them.
Bones and all is a passionate horror novel for all ages; poetic, patient and beautifully rendered. Based on the novel of the same name by director Camille DeAngelis Luca Guadagnino creates a deeply tender coming-of-age story that evokes comparisons Terence Malick‘S Badlands. The unique blend of horror, romance and road trip film creates a unique experience, enhanced by the raw authenticity of Russell and Chalamet’s performances.
