‘1980s ‘Contemporary Glass Palace’ in Maryland remains buyer within days of being listed for $2 million

A unique “contemporary glass palace” in Maryland that features its own “party kitchen” has managed to snare a buyer just days after it was put on the market for $1.99 million.
The 1980s home, which features an array of unique amenities in addition to its striking design, spans 8,000 square feet in Potomac, MD.
Thanks to the glass walls, which can be found both inside and out, the property is a light-filled sanctuary made all the more stunning by the open floor plan, which offers a sun-filled interior that makes the home look all the more spacious.
The drama begins from the moment you approach the house, which has a largely white-and-glass exterior, accented by a striking red tower rising through the center.
That imposing presence continues in the two-story entrance, which is accented by glass block walls and a sculptural floating spiral staircase.

It is a living work of art in every sense, having been used for many years to display an equally impressive collection.
“The sellers are art collectors and bought the house to exhibit their art,” the real estate agent said Harriet Kline from Long & Foster Real Estate. “It’s a very cool house and it has an attached apartment with a large terrace that connects the house to the apartment.”
Built in 1985, the six-bedroom estate also features an energy-efficient design for sustainable living.
This, in combination with the unique appearance of the building, ensured that the house attracted a buyer within days of the house being put into use.
“There’s already a contract in place,” Kline said. “All the people who looked at the house were looking for something different than the average architectural style. They liked the open floor plan and wanted to use it as a primary residence.”
Other highlights include butcher block hardwood floors on the first floor and custom lighting, ideal for art collectors.
“The vendors also installed an elevator for easy access from the main level to the second floor,” she said.
A cozy living room with fireplace offers a peaceful view of the wooded plot through floor-to-ceiling windows.

One of the most impressive features is the loft-style dining room, tailor-made for large-scale entertaining, which appears to float above the entrance, surrounded by glass on two sides with access to the expansive outdoor terrace.
“There is also a glass skylight that runs almost the entire length of the house,” Kline noted. “It is a very unique house and extremely well built.”
The sleek main kitchen has curved cabinets with stone worktops and an oversized breakfast bar.
“The house is specially designed for entertaining and has three kitchens: one in the apartment, one on the lower floor for entertaining and the main kitchen,” she added.
A Wendy’s-style glass conservatory, ideal for dining and enjoying the views, overlooks a huge terrace.
“It sits on just over an acre, which is also very attractive,” Kline said.
The 1.3 acre private property also includes a three-car garage with a full apartment above that would be ideal for an extended family and guests.
“The one-bedroom apartment has 1,000 square feet of space and features a fireplace, a fully equipped kitchen that can easily accommodate four people, oversized windows and two balconies,” she said.
There is also approximately 13,000 square feet of outdoor patio ideal for entertaining and relaxing between the main house and guest accommodations.
“What makes this home unique is that you can easily get to Washington, DC and Bethesda, and it is close to many hiking and biking trails, and close to Potomac Village and the Clara Barton Parkway,” Kline noted. “It’s in between all that and is really a unique house.”
