Wendy Williams custody controversy spurs New York senator to push for new law
Wendy WilliamsThe custody issues are catching the attention of at least one New York lawmaker… who is doing everything he can to make sure her family can visit her easily.
Anthony Palumboa senator from upstate New York, tells TMZ … today he’s reintroducing a piece of legislation that would change child custody laws regarding family visitation in the state.
According to Palumbo it is “Karilyn’s Law” would allow families to visit loved ones by filing a request with the court… the guardian would then have ten days to show the court if the person planning to visit is exhibiting inappropriate behavior – and if not, they can come visit.
He says the law is intended to ensure that family members have a legal option to visit a loved one under guardianship, which he says is lacking within the existing framework.

Palumbo has been following Wendy’s case for years and says she is locked in an apartment is tragic. He goes on to say that even if her memory fails, she should still be able to stay with her family instead of being forcibly separated from them.

Despite the unfortunate circumstances, Palumbo hopes the renewed attention surrounding Wendy’s case will spur lawmakers into action. He first proposed Karilyn’s Law in 2022, but it did not pass.
Since he first proposed the bill, he says his office has received dozens of calls and emails from concerned citizens about Wendy’s custody. Unfortunately, the way Palumbo sees it, it can take a celebrity and a tragedy to get people’s attention.
