US Coast Guard rescues man and dog in dramatic video after hurricane damages boat

Hurricane Helene has devastated the southeastern United States… and the U.S. Coast Guard rescue team is working overtime to save both people and pups.
Video is circulating online of a dramatic rescue Thursday off the coast of Florida’s Sanibel Island… where Helene had taken out a sailboat carrying a man and his dog.
Watch the video. Coast Guard members are dropped into the water via a rope and swim to the disabled vessel where the man and the man’s best friend (both wearing life jackets) jump into the water to meet them.
The fearless pup and his owner swim to a basket with the coast guard. They climb in and the USCG pulls them up… ending what could have been a tragic situation.
According to Coast Guard social media, this unnamed man and his canine companion were about 25 miles outside of Sanibel when their 35-foot sailboat became disabled and began taking on water.
The Coast Guard took them to Southwest Florida International Airport, where they met emergency responders, the CG said…reportedly in good medical condition.
Not so lucky for the ship… which is still disabled and floating in the water.
Although this incident occurred just hours before the main part of the storm hit, Helene caused a tons of chaos in the southeastern US … killing at least 50 people, according to reports, and flooding major cities like Atlanta. The storm has been downgraded from Category 4 since Friday.
Fortunately, the Coast Guard was able to prevent a tragic situation here.
