‘Swat’ canceled by CBS for the third time – after two previous saves

CBS has canceled its long -term action drama “SWAT” after eight seasons and 163 episodes, the producers and stars of the show were told on Thursday. But this represents the third time that “Swat” has been canceled by the Oognet – so it is probably difficult to tell whether it is really the end.

The series, which Shemar Moore plays as Daniel “Hondo” Harrelson, was brought back to life for a season 8 after CBS had previously announced that the seventh season would be the last. And that was not the first time, because CBS also had the show in 2023 after season 6, before he announced that it would return for a last run.

In both cases, after the first cancellation CBS, Sony Pictures TV and CBS Studios, the deal could work out to bring the show back against a license fee that was logical for all those involved. But this time it seems that the third time might not be the charm and that “swat” may be really over. ‘SWAT’, which broadcast on Friday at 8 p.m., received a full order of 22 episodes this season, of which 13 have been broadcast so far (which means that there are still nine to go).

“It is heartbreaking news, especially because it was such a huge pleasure to work with this cast and crew to release a show that we have always been proud of,” said Showrunner/Exec producer Andrew Dettman. “They are really an extraordinary group of people who have all worked so hard and have been dedicated for all these eight seasons, in which countless challenges are conquered. I can’t give them enough credit. I feel so privileged that I was part of the SWAT family. ‘

In addition to Moore, “SWAT” also plays Jay Harrington, David Lim, Patrick St. Esprit, Anna Enger Ritch and Niko Pepaj.

“Swat” is produced by Sony Pictures Television in collaboration with CBS Studios. The series is exec produced by Shawn Ryan, Andrew Dettmann, Justin Lin, Neal H. Moritz, Marney Hochman, Pavun Shetty, Billy Gierhart, Shemar Moore, James Scura, Sarah Alderson and Kent Ramherham.

“It was an extraordinary privilege to work for eight seasons and to tell the stories of Hondo and 20-Squado,” said Ryan. “I thank our fans, Shemar Moore, the rest of our cast, our producers, Sony Pictures Television, CBS Studios and CBS for the chance. I especially want to thank our tireless, dedicated crew that our writers, directors and cast have made, always look good. My biggest care at the moment is for them. ”

“Swat” was inspired by the series of the same name made by Robert Hamner who ran ABC from 1975 to 1976.

News comes when CBS also canceled two dramas, “FBI: Most Wanted” and “FBI: International”, earlier this week. Just like “Swat”, which comes from Sony, the “FBI” series also comes from an external studio: Universal TV. Last month CBS Nine Series renewed: “NCIS”, “NCIS: Origins”, “NCIS: Sydney” Tracker, “” George & Mandie’s first marriage “,” Hollywood Squares “,” Elsabeth “,” Fire Country “and” Ghosts “also” the Boston of two Season, “The Network of Two Season,”. A spider -off of “Blue Bloods” for next season, as well as “Fire Country” Spin -OFF “SHERIFF Country”.
