‘Stranger Things’ makers on mourning to mourn the end, hopes for the release of 2025
Matt and Ross Duffer spent most of last year filming the last season of Netflix’s “Stranger Things”, and they can only feel “mixed emotions” now that production is packed.
“It was absolutely sad,” says Ross Duffer about their last day in December. “We are no longer going to tell the story with these characters, with that crew or those actors. We were all exhausted, but at the same time we all had to take some time to mourn its loss. ‘
The duo takes a moment to think, because they accept the Showrunner Award Variety on the SCAD TVFest. “We usually don’t get things like this, so we are very honored that this happens,” says Matt Duffer.
However, the brothers will immediately return to post production, which will occupy a huge part of their year. “At the moment we simply cut all visual securities sequences for the show so that they can start on it so that they can walk on time for a release,” Matt adds.
And when would that be? “Much of it has not been decided, in terms of exactly the release dates and cadans,” he says. “That is a reason why I can’t talk about it. We will get about a few weeks. I just know it was very important for us and Netflix that we will do it this year. But even that is quite the push. “
Much has to be done before fans can catch the fifth chapter of “Stranger Things” and learn what eventually happens to the gang of Hawkins and the fate of the upside down.
But Ross says that they ‘work as quickly as possible as we can’, knowing that it was almost three years ago that we saw our young heroes for the last time. “Even season 4 we cut that so tightly. We dropped in visual securities shots the day after the launch! So hopefully we will be a bit more on schedule this year … Now it is just a kind of another hill while we finally finish this. “
Wait, don’t you mean “running that hill”? The Duffers Chinny: That Kate Bush -Track from 1985 became an unlikely mega hit in 2022 thanks to the recording in season 4. While they edit season 5, the Duffers wonder what the next surprise could change in the time.
“You can’t really produce it,” says Matt. “If you try to produce it, you are almost guaranteed that it was not touched. The Kate Bush, I thought that episode was cool and I love Kate Bush. But no, I didn’t expect it to resonate with Gen Z in a certain way. But that is one of the fun things to turn it off. I know the things we are enthusiastic about, but usually they come from the Kate Bush aspect from the left field. I am sure that will happen again. That is part of the cool: you put it in the world, and it does things that you expect and do things that you don’t expect. ”
In the meantime, the couple who have divided their time between their LA -House and their production basis in Atlanta in the past decade is pleased to return to Georgia to pick up their honor. “It was a kind of second home for us,” he says. “The crew has been incredible. The city itself has just meant a lot to us. In addition to the people, it is such a great location in terms of what we can find and are able to make it in Hawkins, Indiana. “
What happens for the Duffers after the “Stranger Things” final? “It has been nine years of our lives that this one story only told,” says Ross Duffer. “So there is certainly some fear of it, what is the next step, and how does it get out? Fortunately we can simply concentrate on the processing, so those thoughts are not overwhelming to us. But I am sure they will be. “
