A large number of people were injured – some seriously – on Saturday when a ski lift collapsed at a resort in Spain, videos of the aftermath show.
Of the dozens injured, at least nine people are said to have been seriously injured… while dozens of others were trapped in the damaged chairlift at the resort in Spain’s Aragon region.
Shortly after local reports emerged… several videos were shared on social media showing the injured strewn among what appeared to be scattered poles and ski boots… as emergency services tried to make their way to them.
One photo from the area showed what appeared to be a huge wheel sprocket from the left, completely dislodged from its holder! The exact cause of the malfunction is not clear.
A witness told state television channel TVE… “It’s as if a cable has come loose, the chairs have burst and people have been thrown away.”
Among the emergency services who responded was a helicopter… which captured harrowing video of the terrifying aftermath.
Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez said he was “shocked by the news of the accident” and added: “All our affection to the injured and their families.”
