Secret Lives of Mormon Women’ Mikayla Hopes for Disease ‘Answers’

Secret Lives of Mormon Women star Mikayla Matthews still has no clarity about her chronic illness.

“I haven’t found any answers yet,” Mikayla shared exclusively We weekly. “I’m still doing more tests. I just had a biopsy done yesterday. I go to a cancer institute and get tested for various forms of blood cancer.”

Mikayla opened up on her social media and reality series Hulu about her chronic illness, which leaves red marks on her skin. During the show, Mikayla explained that she had undergone a “hair analysis test, urine test, stool test” for her condition, but was not diagnosed.

While you’re talking to UsMikayla stretched out her forearm to show the redness. “We’re still in the red, we’re still going through it,” she said.

“I’m a lot better than I used to be, but I still have my ups and downs, so it’s just frustrating not to get answers and to feel like I’m on my own and then have to navigate this really exciting time when I don’t feel my best,” Mikayla continued. “And so that was a bit of the hardest part.”

Mikayla explained that her condition took a toll on her during the filming of the movie Secret Lives of Mormon Women and take care of her and her husband Jace Terryhis three children.

“There was a time when the back of my legs and every crease was cut and bleeding, and I could barely get up and walk to take care of my children,” she said. “And so that was a very difficult time. I feel like my self-confidence was at an all-time low. I feel like my quality of life wasn’t great because I could barely do anything.”

She continued, “I was filming at the time, and so I went crying on the way to filming and said, ‘Oh my God, I look so terrible.’ And then I would get there and just not be fully present.

Mikayla shared that she hopes to be in a “healthier state” for a possible season two Secret Lives of Mormon Women. “Maybe I’m the bad guy [in] season two and more confrontational because she called everyone wrong,” she joked.

The Hulu reality series follows a group of Mormon mother influencers, who dominated TikTok in 2022 due to their unconventional lifestyles. The show starts afterwards Taylor Frankie Paul blamed “soft swinging” (intimacy with someone outside of marriage) as the reason behind then-husband’s divorce Tate Paul.

Following the Secret Lives of Mormon Women‘ release, Mikayla shared behind-the-scenes images of the red marks on her skin.

“What you didn’t see on the show💗,” she wrote on Sunday, September 8 Instagram after. “Appearing for the filming of the entire first season was not only physically exhausting but also extremely mentally challenging and watching the show it is very clear that I was fighting for my life not only because I was surrounded by crazy women lol but because I was really having a hard time.”

She continued: “I want to continue to shed light on the many stages of my chronic illness and chronic illness in general. I hope to come back SEASON 2 and share my full story🫶🏼🫶🏼💅🏼#secretlivesofmormonwives #chronicillness.”

The Secret Lives of Mormon Women is currently streaming on Hulu.
