Richard Simmons’ family denounces housekeeper’s ‘greed’ during estate battle
Richard Simmons‘ family is responding to a claim by the late fitness icon’s housekeeper that she was pressured to give up her role as co-trustee of his estate.
On Wednesday September 25 Teresa Reveles filed a petition claiming that Richard’s brother, in a “nefarious scheme”, Lenny Simmonsand his wife, Cathyasked her to sign documents revoking her role as trustee as she mourned the loss of her boss, who died on July 13.
Reveles claims she signed away her title because she feared losing her rights to the inheritance Richard had left her. She is seeking to be reinstated as an associate trustee and seeking legal action to stop Lenny from using Richard’s image and likeness for personal gain.
“Richard’s message was always one of joy and positivity. He would be heartbroken to learn of Teresa’s greed and offended if she undermined their three decades of supposed friendship in such a public manner. Her actions threaten to damage Richard’s incredible legacy, which we are working hard to preserve,” his family said in a statement late Wednesday. per People.
“Richard cared for Teresa impeccably and ensured that she was well cared for even after his passing,” the statement said. “She is a major beneficiary of his will. She has made a well-considered decision to decline to serve as co-administrator of the estate, which in no way affects her status as a beneficiary.”
The family called Reveles’ allegations “completely and demonstrably false, and we have advised her counsel of these facts. Teresa’s request to be reinstated as co-trustee was denied because co-trustees must work together in the best interests of the estate, and Teresa has demonstrated by her actions that she does not share those interests.”
They claimed that “two months later [Richard] has died, she is staying in his house, even though she has her own home, and she has tried to charge her living expenses to the estate. We have also learned that a documentary has been pitched to Netflix that identifies Teresa as the primary source and contributor and which we believe will be damaging to Richard’s legacy.”
In conclusion, they stated: “It appears that Teresa intends to squander the estate’s assets, which would otherwise go to the beneficiaries, to pursue meritless and pointless lawsuits. When the court is informed of the facts already communicated to Teresa’s attorney, we are confident the court will deny the motion.”
Richard died at his home in Los Angeles, just one day after his 76th birthday. ABC News reported at the time that Los Angeles police had responded to a call from Richard’s housekeeper. Richard was pronounced dead at the scene after officers arrived at his home.
Richards official cause of death It was later revealed that it was “accidentally caused by complications from recent falls and heart disease as a contributing factor,” a spokesperson for the Simmons family stated in late August.
In July, Reveles said People that she had discovered Richard in his bedroom with his hands clenched into fists.
“When I saw him, he looked peaceful,” Reveles remembers. ‘That’s how I know it was a heart attack. A few years ago I had a heart attack and my hands did the same thing.”
She added: “He died happy.”
