To start the discussion of the episode, Chris dives into her decision to leave pensions and to work directly with Nykia Wright.
Sherry Chris: I met Nykia in the late summer of 2024. I was really attracted to her energy, intelligence, sharp humor and passion for what she wanted to do. And I thought I really wanted to stand by her side. My role is currently quite limited, but it is an important one. It is the rebuilding of the relationships with the largest brokers and stakeholders of the public companies that are affiliated with Nar.
Diego Sanchez: The various problems that are confronted with are well documented by Housing And other media companies for housing. How did you supervise Nykia in these first few weeks in prioritizing challenges?
Chris: In three weeks I contacted many people. I am at the headquarters in Chicago today and we have set up different meetings-mommy, some virtual with some of those stakeholders. We just keep meeting and listening. We both agreed that listening was task number one. Then correcting and improving is in a positive way task number two.
The other part is to get Nykia on stage, which I look forward to being on your stage soon. It is so that she can talk about what she is planning to do.
Sanchez: How do you think you can remove some of the potential disadvantages of the double desk?
Chris: I think full disclosure is in the first place. Whatever form it takes, the consumer and the agent must understand exactly how the transaction will take place.
Sanchez: Various state and local broker organizations have asked to disconnect their membership of National Nar membership. Nar also stands for a few lawsuits on this issue. Why do you think brokers should join their local state and national organizations?
Chris: Nar has three primary buckets that help members. Ethical code and ethical standards at the same time, like this, I find very important.
Number two is advocacy. Although it was only three weeks ago, advocacy is so important. It is probably one of the best kept secrets here at Nar. One of the things I hope to do is to discover that secret and to ensure that it is known to all the people I talk to. It is so important and the representative team has worked very hard on what they do.
The third is only the extensive support that the National Association offers.
To close the conversation, Chris gave a clear message to all organizations that are planning to separate from Nar in 2025.
Chris: I am thinking of these brokers and associations who want to disconnect and I wonder why. If they listen to this podcast, let’s give it a chance. Do nothing yet. Let’s give it a chance and see how we can all work together.
