Margot Robbie used the music from Titanic to cry on set in front of Leo and Kate
Margot Robbie likes to use the Titanic soundtrack for inspiration, but she never imagined them both Leonardo DiCaprio And Kate Winslet would witness it.
“I can even just hear the theme music Titanicand I will cry,” Robbie, 34, said on an upcoming episode of “Talking Pictures: A Movie Memories Podcast,” set to air on Tuesday, November 26, according to Variety. “And so that’s what I do on set when I have to cry in a scene.”
Robbie recalled a particular time when she decided to continue with her favorite method of producing natural tears, which led to a “surreal” experience that involved both Titanic stars.
“On Wolf of Wall Streetthere was the big, crazy scene after I asked for a divorce and all that. And Kate Winslet came to visit Leo that day,” Robbie explained. “I sat in the room next to them and listened to the Titanic soundtrack tries to stay in sad, tearful mode. And then I saw Kate Winslet and Leo walking by. It was very surreal.”
DiCaprio, 50, and Winslet, 49, played the lead roles in 1997 Titanic and have remained good friends ever since. The film was not only a box office success, but also received critical acclaim. The romantic drama won 11 Oscars, including Best Picture and Best Director. Although Robbie didn’t say which specific song brought her to tears, the most recognizable tune is “My Heart Will Go On,” performed by Celine Dion. (The ballad also won the Academy Award for Best Original Song.)
Almost twenty years later, Robbie played the leading role The Wolf of Wall Street next to DiCaprio. Her portrayal of Naomi Lapaglia in 2013 Martin Scorsese black comedy was a breakout role before starring in blockbusters like Suicide squad, Barbie and more.
Although Robbie didn’t reveal how DiCaprio and Winslet reacted to her getting into character, Winslet opened up about how the film’s power anthem makes her feel like she’s going to “throw up.”
“No, I shouldn’t say that. No, actually I feel like throwing up,” she joked in a 2012 interview with MTV News. Glamour. “I wish I could say, ‘Oh, listen everyone! It’s Celine Dion’s song!’ But I don’t. I just have to sit there, you know, with a straight face and a huge internal eye roll.
Winslet added that the idea that everyone would want her to sing along to “My Heart Will Go Own” had gotten old.
“I recently did a talk show in Italy and there was a live pianist who softly started playing the theme song,” she reflected. “I was not even gently, but rather seriously, urged to sing it as if I had sung it in the first place. It was like, ‘No! I’m not going to do that.’ They’re like, ‘Oh no, come on, it’ll be funny.’ No, it won’t be funny. Not at all. And I’m not going to do that.”
