Maggie Smith’s most memorable roles over the years
Maggie Smith captivated audiences with her extensive collection of roles on the big screen, small screen and stage.
Despite being in major franchises such as Harry Potter And Downton AbbeySmith had no desire to become famous. “I don’t feel any different than before, and I don’t know exactly what [being a star] means,” she said during a rare interview with 60 minutes in February 2013.
Three years later, the actress revealed why she chose to perform more in stage productions than on the big screen.
“You get another chance in the theater, you know. You can do it the next night, at the next gig. Then you can probably get it right. But in a movie you don’t really have a say,” she told NPR in 2016. “And honestly, I probably drive everyone crazy and just go on and on and on and want to do another take and – because I never feel like it’s right. So I always feel enormous pressure.”
She thought about her work Harry Potter And Downton Abbey in a 2019 interview with Britain Evening Standard Magazinein which he said: ‘I’m very grateful for the work in Potter and Downton, but it wasn’t what you’d call satisfying. I didn’t really feel like I was acting in those things.
Smith died in September 2024 at the age of 89, a year after starring in the lead role The Wonder Club of Kathy Bates And Laura Linney.
