Judge Mathis indicted for allegedly threatening to shoot city worker
Judge Mathijs threatened to shoot a city worker all because a dump truck was blocking his driveway… at least according to a new lawsuit.
The documents, obtained by TMZ, name a man Ricardo Acosta claims he was working at the LA Dept. in July 2023. of Water and Power, where he was working outside Mathis’ home when he says the TV judge started cursing at him.
Acosta claims Mathis drove his car out of his garage, then got out of the car and started hurling expletives… and yelling at Acosta to “get the damn truck out of the way.”
The city worker claims Mathis was behind the dump truck at the time and he says he had to have Mathis come out from behind the truck for safety reasons… because he was afraid the truck would roll backwards when he put it in gear because he was parked on the truck. a slope.
Acosta claims Mathis told him he “didn’t give a fuck and that he had to run him over to see what would happen to him.” He says Mathis then told him he had something for him, ran into the house and came back with a gun.
In the documents, Acosta claims Mathis brandished the gun and said, “I’ll bust a hat… you want to fuck me.” He says Mathis then got back in the car and drove away, but not before threatening to “break a cap” again.
Acosta is suing Mathis for assault and intentional infliction of emotional distress… and he’s going after Mathis for damages.
The lawsuit follows a story we broke in July 2023… when law enforcement sources told us that an LADWP employee had filed a complaint with police. Accusing Mathis of threatening workers with a gun after a heated confrontation.
Judge Mathis’ lawyer, Anahita Sedaghatfar tells TMZ… “This unfiled complaint, which has been easily disseminated publicly, is a last-ditch effort by Mr. Acosta to extort my client, Judge Mathis, for financial gain. The recitation of the ‘facts’ of the Mr. Acosta simply does not reflect what occurred during the incident, which occurred more than a year ago.”
She continues: “The report made to the LAPD by Mr. Acosta’s superior contains many demonstrable falsehoods, while also admitting that Judge Mathis feared for his own safety and that of his family due to Mr. Acosta’s and his cohorts and the false imprisonment they imposed on Judge Mathis on his own private property.”
She adds, “That the LAPD did not even investigate Mr. Acosta’s claims is a testament to their lack of merit. Should Mr. Acosta proceed with this lawsuit, we will not only vigorously defend the case, but we will also cross-claim against Mr. Acosta for his illegal conduct and repeated defamation of my client.”
