Google launches a free AI coding assistant with very high usage caps
On Tuesday, Google introduced a new, free consumer version of its AI code -voltage and assistant tool, Gemini Code Assist and which the company calls Gemini code for private individuals. The company has also rolled Github for Github, a code provision “agent” that is designed to automatically search for bugs in code and to offer suggestions directly within Github.
Codehulp For Individuals, developers use a chat window to talk in natural language with a Google AI model that has access to and can edit their codebase. Just like Github’s popular Copilot tool, Gemini code for individuals can repair bugs, complete code sections or explain parts of the codebase that make no sense.
Google’s AI Codes Assistant uses a variant of the Gemini 2.0 AI model of the company that is refined for coding applications. Gemini code help for individuals can integrate with popular coding environments such as US code and jet brains via plug -ins, and works in many popular programming languages.
In particular, CodeHulp offers 180,000 code -volaties per month, which is 90 times the usage cap of the free Github Copilot plan (2,000 code voltage per month). Code aid for persons is also supplied with 240 chat requests per day, almost 5 times the number of requests that the free Github Copilot plan offers.
The Model Power code for individuals has a 128,000-token context window, of which Google says it is more than four times larger than what the competition offers. This means that the model can include more code in one prompt, so it can be a reason about more complicated code bases.
Developers can register for the free public preview of Gemini Code Assist for people who start Tuesday.
As for Gemini Code Assist for Github, it automatically scans pull requests to search for bugs and offers additional useful recommendations.
The two tools arrive when Google makes its efforts to compete with Microsoft and his subsidiary, Github, in the space of the developer tools. Seven months ago, Google Ryan Salva, who previously led the Github Copilot team to spear the work of Google on Developer Stools.
By offering a free AI coding assistant with very high usage caps, Google hopes to send developers to Codehulp early in their career, Salva WAN said in an interview. Salva expects that at least a few of those developers upgrade one day to an Enterprise Code Assist Plan, where Google will earn its money.
Google has been selling Gemini Code to companies for about a year. The company announced in December that the AI coding assistant would soon integrate with tools from third parties of Gitlab, Github and Google Documents. Enterprise Code Assist Letters add functions such as audit logbooks, integration with other Google Cloud products and adjustment for private repositories.
