Gene Wilder House, once owned by Elon Musk, is back on the market
A piece of Hollywood real estate history is up for grabs again… the Gene Wilder at home in Bel Air…and the place is quite eclectic.
The late actor’s former home just went up for sale for $12,950,000… and it has quite an interesting history… including some links to Elon Musk.
Gene bought the property in 1976 for about $300,000… making the big purchase after his 1974 movie “Young Frankenstein” became a hit.
The place has 4 bedrooms, 5 bathrooms and 2,700 square feet of living space plus a kidney-shaped pool in the backyard, overlooking the Bel-Air Country Club golf course.
Wilder lived there for decades until he sold the property in 2007 for $2.75 million… and in 2013 Musk bought it for $6.75 million.
At the time, Elon owned a larger – and newer – house across the street… and Musk preserved Gene’s eclectic home and used it as a place to host parties and events.
When Elon announced in 2020 that he was to sell all his physical possessions, he put the house on the market for $9.5 million… and made it clear that he wanted the next owner to leave the house as is, rather than tear it down and start over .
Eventually Elon made a deal with Gene’s cousin, Jordan Walker-Pearlmanwho had grown up in the home of his famous uncle. Elon sold the house back to the family for $7 million… with the stipulation that Jordan wouldn’t change the “soul” of the house.
Elon lent Jordan and his screenwriter wife Elizabeth Hunter$6.7 million — and in October 2020, the sale closed… and Gene’s house was saved.
Now Gene’s house is for sale again… hitting the market on the same day the Wall Street Journal reports that Jordan and Elizabeth have fallen behind on their loans.
The WSJ also reports that an entity tied to Musk recently filed a notice of default on the house… an early step in the foreclosure process.
Elon can reportedly force a sale in the coming months… and it looks like Jordan and Elizabeth are going to try to sell the property before the deadline.
Our sources say Gene’s family and Elon share the same desire… for the house to retain its original soul… and we’re told that will be part of the deal.
