Erik and Lyle Menendez family meet with LA DA Nathan Hochman on Friday
Big day for Erik And Lyle Menendez …families meet with the new district attorney in Los Angeles Nathan Hochman to talk about resenting the brothers for the infamous murder of their parents decades ago.
Twenty relatives of Jose And Kitty Menendez – who were shot dead by their children in 1989 – will sit down with Hochman today to ask the public prosecutor to reduce the sentences for Erik and Lyle.
As you know, the brothers were convicted of the murders at their second trial in 1996 and sentenced to life in prison without parole. Their first trial ended in a mistrial.
At today’s meeting, family members will speak in support of “a grudge process that reflects Erik and Lyle’s abuse, trauma and proven rehabilitation over the past 35 years.”
The family also notes that Lyle and Erik spent decades behind bars “taking responsibility for their actions and making positive contributions to their community through tremendous personal growth.”
In October, when LA DA George Gascon held a press conference announcing he would do so ask a judge for a recusal the brothers.
But Gascon lost his bid for re-election to Hochman, who has not yet said what his position will be on re-sentencing.
The The family’s lawyers convicted Hochman late last year… to meet with the lawyer of the only family member opposing the brothers’ release.
A hearing is scheduled for later this month. Erik and Lyle’s lawyer, Mark Geragoswill not only ask that his clients be resentenced… he will ask the judge to change the conviction from murder to manslaughter, which would immediately release Erik and Lyle.
