‘Days of Our Lives’ actor was 39
Francisco San Martin, an actor known for his roles in “Days of Our Lives” and “Jane the Virgin,” died last Thursday. He was 39.
San Martin died by suicide, confirmed by the Los Angeles coroner’s office in their reportwhere the cause of death was assessed as ‘ligature hanging’.
San Martin played Dario Hernandez on the long-running soap opera ‘Days of Our Lives’ from 2010-2011, running for a total of 59 episodes. His character first appears as a thief before it is revealed that he is investigating a cold case.
In the years following his breakout role, he appeared in Steven Soderbergh’s ‘Behind the Candelabra’ with Matt Damon and Michael Douglas. He also appeared in 16 episodes of “The Bold and the Beautiful” and seven episodes of “Jane the Virgin” alongside Gina Rodriguez. His last film credit was in the short film “Dot,” directed by Tiffany Frances.
San Martin began acting in children’s theater productions in Montana, the state in which he grew up, before returning to Spain as a teenager, where he worked as a model. He appeared in many Spanish plays and shows before returning to the US to work professionally.
Camila Banus, who played Dario’s sister Gabi on ‘Days of Our Lives,’ took to Instagram Stories to share a tribute. She wrote: “Pepe, what can I say, but I love you and rest in peace my friend. I love you very much. I wish I’d told you more.’
