‘Cher: The Memoir – Part One’: Biggest Revelations
Cher sought advice Lucille Balwith whom her marriage has just ended Desi Arnaz at the time, which helped her leave her abusive marriage to Sonny.
She wrote in her memoir, “I told her, ‘Lucy, I want to leave Sonny, and you’re the only person I know who has ever been in the same situation.
“‘What should I do?’ Lucy and her husband had also become famous working together as stars on TV. And he was also a huge womanizer.
She later passed on the same advice to Tina Turner amid her traumatic union with Ike Turner.
Cher said: “Before we went on, she came to my room and asked if I had some cover. She had a bruise on her arm that she didn’t want [it] seen on camera. She sat down while I looked for it and then said quietly and very clearly, “Tell me how you left it.”
Tina and Ike broke up in 1976.
