Bad Wolf’s profits rise to $13 million despite a decline in sales
“Doctor Who” producer Bad Wolf has increased its profits by 49% despite a year-over-year sales decline.
Profit after tax rose from £7,072,610 ($8.9 million) in 2023 to £10,554,620 ($13.2 million) in 2024, the latest data showed. Gross profit rose from £11 million last year to £15 million this year.
This is despite turnover falling from £117m in 2023 to £94m in 2024.
The accounts, filed last week with UK business registrar Companies House, cover the 12-month period ending March 31, 2024.
The documents also show that the value of Bad Wolf’s projects classified as ‘in production’ has fallen substantially, from £96 million last year to £72 million this year. One of the shows the company has in the pipeline is “The Other Bennet Sister,” a spinoff of Jane Austen’s “Pride and Prejudice.”
This downward trend, which is being felt across the UK manufacturing industry as a whole, is also reflected in the company’s turnover by market. The company’s UK sales fell from £91 million to £70 million in a year, while US sales fell slightly less, from £26 million in 2023 to £24 million this year.
Bad Wolf, run by Jane Tranter and Julie Gardner, is known for shows like “Doctor Who,” “Industry” and “His Dark Materials.” In 2021, the Wales-based company, which also owns a sound stage facility in Cardiff, was acquired by Sony Pictures Television for a reported £60 million.
The Companies House documents reflect Bad Wolf’s ongoing commitment to Wales and state: “Bad Wolf is committed to deploying Welsh crew and expanding the local crew base. Bad Wolf’s spending on local jobs and businesses has delivered significant economic benefits to the Welsh economy.”
