Ariana Grande’s ‘relationship with makeup’ grew thanks to Wicked
Ariana Grande completely transformed herself – and her approach to makeup – to play Glinda Bad.
Grande, 31, opened up about how she’s getting ready to play the Good Witch via Instagram on Thursday, November 7. “This makeup made me transform my entire look and my entire relationship with makeup,” she said as she got glam. “I just like it so much. Love, love, love.”
Grande continued, “There’s no thick eyeliner, there’s no heavy crease, it’s just very warm, open and beautiful.” Even though she no longer wears as heavy eye makeup as she used to, Grande still feels true to herself. “The eyelashes are in a cat [eye] shape, which still gives you the cat-eye lift I normally love, but it’s a fairer representation of what you look like,” she explained.
While applying extra bronzer to her cheeks, Grande said that she and Cynthia Erivowho plays Elphaba are both big fans of a sharp cheek. “One thing about these witches is they have contours,” Grande joked.
The actress praised her blonde wigs for looking so realistic, as the hair department plucked each hairline into “the perfect shape.”
Between hair, makeup and tattoo cover-up, Grande boasted that she took “the least time” to get ready “of the entire cast.”
“Tattoo time!” Grande said he got to work as a makeup artist on the singer’s hands, which are decorated with hearts, patterns, a Harry Potter reference and more ink. “We have to cover up quite a bit,” she said, noting how many tattoos hide depending on the costume she’s wearing.
Grande also talked about Glinda’s “over-the-top, clown-like and big” personality, which is reflected in her glamor and wardrobe.
While creating her look, Grande asked, “How can we honor how loud she can be and how big she can be, while also translating that into what works on screen?”
“That was a really fun but intimate part of the process because Glinda is so loved,” she admitted.
The “Eternal Sunshine” singer then changed into her pink ballgown dress and headed to the set.
Bad premieres in theaters on November 22.
