Korean star of ‘Extreme Job’ was 55

South Korean actor Song Young-Kyu, internationally known for his memorable turn as Chief Choi in the Kassa 2019 hit ‘Extreme Job’, died on Monday. He was 55.

Song was no longer responded to a parked car in Cheoin-Gu, Yongin, south of Seoul, around 8 hours of local time, according to the local authorities. The police confirmed that there were no signs of cheating and no suicide letter was found. An acquaintance discovered his body.

Song made his poneing debut in 1994 in the children’s musical “Wizard Mureul” and built a steady career of three decades in theater, film and television. He was best known for supporting roles in projects, including “Trick”, “Fornuis League”, “Baseball Girk” and “Hyena”. His appearance in “Extreme Job”-one of the most profitable films in the Korean cinema confirmed his status as a reliable character actor with a talent for dry humor and sandy realism.

In June of this year, Song was involved in a Dui -incident in Yongin, reporting five kilometers with an alcohol concentration of blood for the withdrawal of the license under the South Korean legislation. He was referred to prosecution without detention. In the aftermath, Song stepped off the stage production of “Shakespeare in Love” and was then removed or minimized in two dramas that were broadcast – “The Defects” from Ena and SBS’s “The Winning Try”.

The gravitas and consistency of Song made him a go-to-supporting actor in the Korean entertainment industry. His versions often have large-scale productions grounded with silent authority, a presence that resonated with the public, even in ensemble-heavy works. His unexpected death adds another chapter to the current conversation about mental health and media research in the South Korean entertainment landscape. Earlier this year, actor Kim Sae-Ron was found dead at her home.
