‘Dexter: Resurrection’ Premiere spoilers: How is Dexter alive?

Spoiler alert: This article contains spoilers for “A Lading Heart …”, the series premiere of “Dexter: Resurrection”, which now streams on Paramount+.

When “Dexter: Resurrection” was announced during last year’s San Diego Comic-Con, we sat down with Michael C. Hall to ask one main question: How?

During “Dexter: New Blood” in 2022, the final saw the serial killer excel in the ice cold after he was shot by his son. At that time, Showrunner Clyde Phillips confirmed that “Dexter is dead.” But apparently he just joked!

“It’s really cold outside,” Hall said Variety At the time, indicate how Dexter could have a little how that Scot wound survived. It turns out that it is precisely How Dexter survived. The series premiere of “Resurrection” starts (after a brief passage of what happened in “New Blood”) with the titular character in the hospital after the suffering of “catastrophic blood loss”. Doctors have revived him and his voice -over heard: “Ah, a beating heart. I take it.”

The show then flashes to 10 weeks later, where he does not respond in the hospital. In the first instance, Dexter flashes to a white heavenly vision where Arthur Mitchell (John Lithgow), the famous serial killer who died in the final of season 4 of ‘Dexter’, appears. After Dexter asks if he is dead, Arthur replies: “Not yet, but almost killed by someone you love, has his own specific Angel, Eh, Dexter?” The two continue to argue, and it is clear that Arthur is still haunting Dexter, even in the in between.

“Let me give you some advice, serial killer to serial killer. Where you went wrong is thinking that you could have it all – a family and your dark passenger,” says Arthur. “Just like our savior, you sometimes have to go through hell to achieve resurrection. Not that we are something like the good Lord.”

Before waking up, Dexter also sees other spirits from his past: Miguel (Jimmy Smits), which he killed in the final of season 3 of the original series; his father, Harry (James Remar); And finally, Sergeant Doakes (Erik King), which he killed in the final of season 2.

Then Dexter finally wakes up. He has informed that he has been in a coma for 10 weeks and has been “touching and going” for a while, but has been lucky because of the climate: “Fortunately for you, you were shot in 0 degrees weather. The cold and snow delayed your heart rate, reduced blood loss. If it was summer, you would be dead than my last marriage.”

And with that Dexter is back.
