Rocker from the 80s in the hospital after a horrible car -accident
Reo Speedwagon Lead singer Terry Luttrell will be forced to slow down for a while, RadarOnline.com can reveal after he is involved in a scary car accident in Illinois.
The 78-year-old was admitted to the hospital with a cracked breastbone after his airbag was deployed.
According to reports, Luttrell fell asleep behind the wheel while driving on the Interstate 57 in Champaign Urbana and rolled his car.
The accident happened a day after his famous band played a farewell show full of current and former members in the State Farm Center.
Luttrell spoke by telephone from his hospital bed and told the Horseman He expects to be in the hospital in the coming days.
“I was able to get up and get out of the car,” he shared and added, “the airbag went off and my breastbone crashed a bit.”
He said he had some back and neck pain, but that it is “nothing that cannot be overcome”.
Luttrell, who was on his way to St. Louis for business, admitted after the late show and even later spent the time spent signing signatures for fans during an after-party of the concert, he did not get much sleep.
He estimated that he left the party at 2 a.m. and only went to bed at 4:30 am.
“It was just a drawing signal,” he said, and explained that he thinks he should take time-out for every fan.
After a short sleep, Luttrell hit the road early on Sunday and later admitted that he felt a bit sleepy when he was on his way, but thought it would be okay.
“It just happened,” said Luttrell. “I nodded away. I rolled the car over and I woke up and I was in a cocoon (the airbags). Unfortunately it was the car.”
He was taken to the local hospital, where he noticed that some of the nurses present had just been to the concert and encouraged him.
Luttrell left Reo Speedwagon in 1972, after personal differences with main guitarist Gary Richrath. The following year he joined Progressive Band Starcastle.
Last fall, the remaining members of his former band Reo Speedwagon announced that they were retiring due to the back problems of bass player Bruce Hall and the departure of singer Kevin Cronin after an emergency operation.
The group posted one Note for Instagram In September: “To our fans: Bruce is planning to be on the road again. If it was only up to him, he would be on tour again … But it’s not just him.
“The consensus influence was that he had not recovered sufficiently to be able to perform at the level that fans have expected.”
The memorandum continued: “Bruce respected that opinion and is grateful that Matt has been there to let the car roll through the summer tour.
“Bruce has never had the intention to retire or to run away from the band, fans and crew that he has been loving for almost 50 years. Because Kevin’s side he never intends to leave the band, and fans and crew also mean the world for him.
“Because of this complex situation, irreconcilable differences were created between Bruce and Kevin.
“So it is with great sadness that we announce that the Reo Speedwagon will stop touring on January 1, 2025.
