Paapa Essiedu, Keeley Hawes to Leiden Channel 4 -drama ‘Falling’

Paapa Essiedu can soon be set to put on the dark robes of Severus Snape in HBO’s “Harry Potter” series, but the British actor first goes into the black cloth of the clergy.
The star “I May May Destroy You” and “Black Mirror” plays a Catholic priest next to Keeley Hawes (“Scoop”, “Miss Austen”) as a dedicated nun in the Channel 4-drama “Falling”, that the very first love story of Bafta-Winning “Adolescentia” Adolescentia “Adolescentia” The Forge Entertainment, a Banijay UK company, produces.
In “Falling”, Essiedu’s priest and Hawes’ nun are both deeply dedicated to their work in the church and in their community. Neither is expected to fall in love. But when they do that, both are forced to struggle with what it means for them, their vows and their relationship with God. The drama is described as a “witty, moving, contemporary romantic drama that is as honest as full heart.”
Also Joining the Cast Are Rakie Ayola (“The Pact,” “Kaos”), Jason Watkins (“Coma,” “The Lost Honour of Christopher Jefferies”), Niamh Cusack (“The Virtues,” “Heartbeat”), Adrian Scarborough David Dawson (“My Policeman,” “The Last Kingdom”), Susan Brown (“Mr Bates versus the post office”, “It’s a sin”), Sandra Voe (“Howards End”, “Vera Drake”) and introduces TV newcomers, Holly Rhys and Sinclair.
“I am very happy to take on the role of Anna and look forward to working with the brilliant Paapa Essiedu to bring Jack Thorne’s beautiful scripts to life,” said Hawes.
“Falling is a story that the unique talent of Jack Thorne has to walk through the sublime extraordinary. I can’t wait to work with Keeley, Peter and the rest of the team to bring this world to life,” Essiedu added.
Thorne says: “I never thought I would write a love story, but I am very excited to make one with the brilliant Peter Hoar. We feel so happy that we have persuaded the mighty (and beautiful) Keeley Hawes, the brilliant (and also beautiful) Paapa Essiedu and the most amazing company of (beautiful) acteles 4.”
