5 ways to get rid of chapped lips forever

Paint the lips are so frustrating. You apply balm and apply balm, and yet, you have flaking, dryness and sometimes bleeding.
You try to hide them, but applying lipstick or lip gloss on dry, cracked lips only makes them worse!
Why is it so difficult to keep smooth, hydrated lips? Is there a way to get rid of chapped lips forever?
Why can’t I get rid of my chapped lips?
It is true – the skin on your lips is different from the skin on most of the rest of your body. The lips have no oil glands to keep them hydrated. (That’s why they have no pores.) If they even lose a little moisture, they will be dry and chapped. It also makes them more vulnerable for environmental elements such as the sun, pollution and dry air.
Why lips dry out so quickly:
- Lack of oil glands: The lips cannot produce their own oils, so they are much more vulnerable to dryness.
- Thin skin barrier: The skin on the lips is much thinner than the skin on the rest of the body. That means that the outer barrier is less resistant to damage.
- Constant exposure: The lips are rarely covered like much of the skin of the body. They are almost always exposed to the wind, cold, sun and dry air.
- Frequent movement: Talking, eating, drinking and licking your lips all contribute to moisture loss.
The lips are more vulnerable than other areas, so they need extra protection to stay soft and healthy.
What makes Chapped Lips worse?
In addition to the fact that the lips are naturally vulnerable to dryness, various other factors can make dryness worse.
- Lick your lips: As mentioned above, licking your lips contributes to dryness. Saliva evaporates quickly and assumes the moisture that the lips have with it. So every time you lick your lips, you leave them drier than before.
- Breathe through your mouth: That air that goes in and out of your mouth dries your lips every time it passes.
- Not drinking enough water: Dehydration influences the entire body, including the lips. Without enough water on the inside, the lips on the outside cannot stay moist.
- Eat spicy or salt food: Ingredients in these foods can irritate covered lips and lead to further inflammation.
These are all things that we do that can rob our lips of moisture. But it is not only our promotions that can make things worse – the products we use to repair them can also be!
Products that make Chapped Lips worse
Unfortunately, some freely available lip balms and liphydrating products contain ingredients that are not good for the lips. Some will not help the lips to get better, while others can even worsen dryness and inflammation.
Scents and flavors: That berry lip balm may taste good, but the flavors consist of chemicals that can dry your lips. Scents can also consist of chemicals that irritate the skin.
Menthol and Kamfer: These ingredients create a cool sensation when applied, but can also dry out your lips.
Salicylic acid: Some lip balms contain this acid – supposedly to help remove dead skin cells from the surface of the lips. But if you have a sensitive skin or lips that have already been chopped, this ingredient can be too hard and can lead to more peeling.
Vaseline: It can retain moisture, but it does not hydrate, so if your lips are dry, there is no moisture to lock in and it will not help. Over time, relying on this ingredient can lead to extra dryness, because it creates a barrier without adding moisture, so that your lips may prevent you from absorbing moisture from other nourishing products that you can use.
Read the label on your product to prevent these ingredients. Look for alternatives that do not contain petrolatum or mineral oil that can be harmful to the skin and body. Good options are aloe, shea butter, coconut oil and beeswax, all of which offer fluid for a long time.
5 ways to get rid of covered lips
You know what to avoid. But what works? We have some tips for you below.
1. Use the right healing balm (try our CV SkinLabs Restorative Skin Balm)
The balm you choose makes a big difference in how healthy and smooth your lips are. We recommend our hypoallergenic central heating skinlabs to recovering skin balm because it is full of skin -enhancing ingredients such as chamomile, calendula, beeswax and bisabolol, which help to calm inflammation while they hydrate deeply dry, tackled lips.
Ingredients such as Castor seed oil and sea buckthorn from the sea offer antioxidant properties, and can help repair damaged skin and to restore any discoloration in the lips. In addition, unlike traditional balms that only cover your lips, this formula helps to restore their natural barrier, so moisture remains locked up for longer.
Bonus: it is free petrolatum and mineral oil -free!
2. Exco oil carefully (but not too often)
Just like the rest of your skin, your peeling lips need to remove dead, flaky skin. But because of their tenderness they require a softer touch. Overexfoliating can do more harm than good. The key is to use a soft product 1-3 times a week, depending on how your lips react.
Some effective options include:
- A homemade sugar and honey bush (Mix a teaspoon of sugar with a few drops of honey and gently mass in the lips).
- A soft toothbrush (Light buff lips in circular movements to slide the dead skin).
- Lip scrubs and nourishing oils (Avoid people with alcohol or artificial scents because they can be annoying).
Always apply our healing skin balland immediately after the peeling to heal cracks and irritated skin, to calm the outer barrier and retain moisture.
3. Try a lip mask at night
If your lips are struggling, try a lip mask. These sit on your lips all night and can help encourage healing.
- A mix of coconut oil and honey For deep hydration.
- Our healing skin ball Heavily applied to seal moisture at night.
- A ready-made sleeping mask With natural and safe ingredients, the lips and recover as you sleep.
4. Protect your lips against sun damage
We don’t often think of our lips when it comes to damage to the sun, but because they may be more exposed to the sun than any other skin area. A lip balm with SPF 30 or higher is a good idea. Look for those who use zinc oxide or titanium dioxide, because they offer the best sun protection without annoying sensitive skin. Follow our restorative skin balls, because the sunscreen balm may not contain the moisture you need.
5. Boost the hydration from within
External treatments are essential if you want your lips to look better. But you also a lot from the inside. Drink more water (target at least eight glasses a day), eat hydrating food (such as melons, cucumbers, citrus fruits and leafy vegetables), use a humidifier in your bedroom and consider taking Omega-3 supplements. (Always contact your doctor first.) The healthy fats help improve the skin fluid levels.
